FG Reaffirms Commitment To Inclusive Education As Nigeria Marks International Day Of The Girl Child.

As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child 2025, the Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to breaking down barriers, expanding access, and ensuring that every girl regardless of ability, background, or circumstance has a voice, a seat at the table, and a pathway to success in education and life.

Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad who gave the assurance at an event organized by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in Abuja to mark the occasion. reassured the girl child that the doors of education are widening to accommodate and empower them.

Speaking on this year’s theme, “Lead a Change: Learn Sign Language Today,” the Minister emphasized the urgent need to train more sign language interpreters, integrate sign language into teacher training curricula, and equip classrooms with tools that support visual-gestural communication.


Earlier in her remarks, UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Aisha Garba, described the occasion as a valuable opportunity to celebrate the potential of the girl child while also reaffirming the collective responsibility to amplify her voice, protect her dignity, and prepare her for leadership—regardless of her abilities or challenges.

Also speaking, Chairman of the UBEC Governing Board and former Governor of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Tanko Al-Makura, commended the inclusive policies of the present administration, highlighting its importance in building a more equitable education system.

The International Day of the Girl Child is observed annually to raise awareness and promote action towards ensuring that every girl, everywhere, has the right to equality, opportunity, and dignity.
