FG’S 41 University Innovation Pods To Drive Jobs, Investment- Alausa

The Federal Government says its plan to establish 41 University Innovation Pods, known as UniPods, across tertiary institutions will help turn research and innovation into jobs, investment and measurable economic growth.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa who disclosed this at a meeting with a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, and seven Vice Chancellors said the initiative reflects President Bola Tinubu’s belief in education as the bedrock of national development and his ambition to build a one trillion dollar economy.

He said the success of the UniPods would be measured by the economic value they generate.

Giving an update on some UniPods already in operation, the Minister said the Federal Ministry of Education, in partnership with the UNDP and Tech4Dev, is working to establish more across tertiary institutions nationwide.

Meanwhile, the UNDP Resident Representative in Nigeria, Elsie Attafuah, commended the Minister for positioning education as a driver of job creation, competitiveness and innovation.

Some of the UniPods are already operational at the University of Lagos, Nasarawa State University and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, among others.
