Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has launched the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Vigilant App and another strategic App as part of efforts to improve financial fraud reporting, police communication and operational response.
The initiatives were unveiled at the NPF Conference Centre in Jabi, Abuja, in the presence of representatives of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Presidential Committee on Economic and Financial Inclusion, the Police Service Commission, the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), financial institutions, fintech companies and other stakeholders.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the NPF Vigilant App was developed by the Force ICT Department in collaboration with stakeholders in the financial services sector to provide members of the public with a platform to report suspected financial fraud.
The statement said users of the application can submit fraud reports, upload supporting evidence, track the progress of cases and receive feedback.
It added that the platform would facilitate coordination between the police and relevant institutions in line with existing laws and procedures.
The Network was introduced to provide police personnel across the country with secure and affordable on-net communication.
The Force said the network would enhance communication among commands and units, particularly during emergencies, and improve operational coordination and response.
Speaking at the launch, Disu described the initiatives as practical steps in advancing the Nigeria Police Force’s digital transformation agenda.
He said the Vigilant App would strengthen engagement between the police and the public, while the CUG Network would improve internal communication and coordination within the Force.
The IGP said technology remains an important tool for professional policing and stressed that it must be deployed lawfully, ethically and responsibly, with due regard for citizens’ rights, privacy, data protection and accountability.
He also reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to collaboration with government institutions and private-sector partners to enhance public safety and national security.
Also speaking, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Information and Communication Technology, DIG Fayoade Mustapha, said the initiatives reflected the Force’s commitment to deploying technology-driven solutions to improve service delivery and public engagement.
Mustapha urged Nigerians to download the NPF Vigilant App from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store and use it responsibly to report suspected cases of financial fraud.
The police acknowledged the contributions of the CBN, the Presidential Committee on Economic and Financial Inclusion, NIBSS, financial institutions, fintech companies, a leading telecommunication network, other partners to the development and launch of the initiatives.
The Force said it would continue to leverage innovation and strategic partnerships to provide more accessible, responsive and people-centred policing services across Nigeria.
