The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to repositioning Technical and Vocational Education and Training, TVET, as a key driver of Nigeria’s industrialisation, economic competitiveness and youth empowerment.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, gave the assurance while inaugurating the Governing Board of the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, in Abuja.
He said the Tinubu administration is transforming the education sector by shifting emphasis from paper qualifications to producing competent, innovative and highly skilled graduates capable of driving industrialisation, entrepreneurship and national productivity.
Congratulating the Chairman and members of the Board, Dr. Alausa described their appointments as a recognition of their professionalism, integrity and commitment to national service.
The Minister stressed that Technical and Vocational Education and Training is no longer an alternative to university education but a strategic national priority essential for Nigeria’s economic transformation.
Responding on behalf of the Board, Chairman of the NBTE Governing Board, Professor Babatunde L. Salako, thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Education for the confidence reposed in the members and pledged the Board’s commitment to delivering on its mandate.

Among the Board’s key priorities is the accelerated implementation of the Recognition of Prior Learning, RPL, framework in collaboration with the Industrial Training Fund and other stakeholders. The initiative is expected to formally recognise and certify the competencies of skilled artisans across the country under the National Skills Qualification Framework.
