The Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi says resources from the Federal Government alone cannot fund the nations basic education sub sector, hence the need for collaboration with non state actors.

The UBEC boss who said this at a one day meeting on promoting partnership with the organised private sector and other stakeholders in the implementation of the UBE Programme held in Abuja, added that despite allocation of over N100 billion to education annually, resources from the Federal Government can no longer run the system.

Dr. Bobboyi said with over 45 million children in the nation’s basic education sector that is plagued with several challenges, the rationale for the meeting is to create access for non-state actors’ active involvement in the UBE programme implementation process.

Meanwhile, some representatives of the private sector in their remarks commended UBEC for the initiative to strengthen the Universal Basic Education, UBE, programme through collaborative partnerships.

The engagement is part of series of meetings between UBEC and the private sector aimed at repositioning the nation’s basic education sub sector for better learning outcomes and delivery.
