The Disability Community have raised concerns over their perceived neglect and exclusion from governance.
The concern was in Abuja raised by the Executive Director, Inclusive Friends Association, Grace Jerry at the 10th year Anniversary of IFA with the theme, “A Decade of Inclusion”.
The IFA boss expressed reservation that 5 years after the passage of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disability Act, Persons with disability are still left in the cold, however made case for a change of narrative.
Earlier in her remarks, the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Sen. Ireti Kingibe who indicated her development programme for persons with disability promised to work with other lawmakers for an increased budgetary allocation for PWDs.
Also, the President, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, John Palfrey added his voice to support for PWDs in Nigeria.
Highpoint of the celebration was the launch of a publication entitled “Beyond Legislation: A Comprehensive Study on Nigeria’s Compliance with the Disability Act”.
