2020 Flood: ECOWAS Commits $1million to Support Victims.
The Federal Government has disclosed that over 27,000 Nigerians drawn across the North East and North West have so far benefited from the ECOWAS stabilization fund as well as humanitarian assistance for the Citizens affected by the 2020 flood.
Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management & Social Development, Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo confirmed this during the ‘Close out meeting’ of implementation of ECOWAS stabilization fund in the North East and North West of Nigeria and delivery of assistance to the population affected by 2020 flood in Member States held in Abuja.
He said the project which was initiated by the Ministry were successfully implemented by World Food Program (WFP) and Nigeria Red Cross Society (NRCS) turned around the fortunes of beneficiaries in not just the affected zones but the nation at large.
On his part, the Director, Humanitarian & Social Affairs, ECOWAS, Sintiki Ugbe, indicated how the project touched the lives of over one million person.
Meanwhile, representatives of the Nigeria Red Cross and World Food Programme took turns to highlighted on the gains of the project.
The Humanitarian initiative for flood victims which was in form of food and non-food items including shelter kits to households, and water sanitation was implemented across 16 flooded states of Kogi, Benue, Nasarawa, Kwara, Niger, Kebbi, Sokoto among others.
