TCN Commissions 150MVA Power Transformer At Afam IV Substation
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commissioned a new 150 MVA 330/132/33kV power transformer at its Afam IV Transmission Substation in Rivers State to improve electricity supply across Port Harcourt and surrounding areas.
The installation, completed on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, by TCN’s Port Harcourt Region, has effectively doubled the substation’s overall transformation capacity from 120MVA to 240MVA.
According to a statement released by TCN management, the upgrade significantly expands transmission capacity to the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) load center. This will enable the distribution company to off-take larger volumes of electricity for distribution to residential and commercial consumers throughout the Port Harcourt metropolis and neighboring communities.
The capacity expansion is part of the broader TCN-World Bank power initiative, a joint project aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s national grid infrastructure and enhancing nationwide power supply.
