The People’s Republic of China has announced a grant assistance package of RMB 200 million (approximately $28 million) to support Nigeria’s national development and economic growth.
The announcement was made by the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Yu Dunhai, during a official diplomatic meeting with Dr. Dunoma Umar Ahmed, Permanent Secretary of the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Thursday in Abuja.
According to Ambassador Yu, the grant will fund specific projects agreed upon by both governments.
He highlighted the 55-year diplomatic relationship between the two nations, noting that bilateral ties have entered a “new stage of high-quality development” under the leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Ambassador Yu added that both countries remain committed to implementing the agreements reached by their heads of state and the outcomes of the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit.
Responding on behalf of the Nigerian government, Dr. Ahmed expressed appreciation for China’s financial support, describing the grant as a reflection of the deep strategic partnership between both nations.
He assured that Nigeria would utilize the funds effectively to execute mutually agreed-upon projects aimed at driving social and economic progress.
