The national leadership of Accord has dismissed the support of its expelled former 2023 presidential candidate, Chris Imumolen, for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiyi, in the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 13, 2026, and signed by its National Chairman, Chief Maxwell Mgbudem, the party said Imumolen had no electoral value or political structure capable of influencing the outcome of any election in the country.
Accord described Imumolen as a “political hireling and hustler” seeking what it termed “stomach infrastructure,” and maintained that he no longer had any affiliation with the party.
The party said Imumolen’s appearance at an APC rally in Osogbo, where he endorsed Oyebamiyi, was evidence that he was not a member of Accord and did not represent the party in any capacity.
It also rejected the description of Imumolen as a “factional chairman,” saying the party had no faction and that the claim was “mischievous” and unfounded.
Accord expressed confidence in victory at Saturday’s election, describing Osun as one of its strongholds and saying the people would overwhelmingly support Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The party alleged that the APC, fearing an electoral defeat, had resorted to violence, harassment and intimidation, as well as the use of federal institutions, particularly the police and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to suppress the Osun State Government, Accord and its members.
Accord urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain neutral and conduct a credible election, while calling on security agencies to act impartially and professionally.
It also appealed to the international community, including the European Union Delegation to Nigeria, African Union, ECOWAS, United States and United Kingdom, to closely monitor the election and sanction anyone found culpable of electoral wrongdoing.
The party said it was prepared for the election and expressed confidence that it would win based on what it described as Adeleke’s achievements and transformational leadership in the state.
Accord called on all stakeholders to ensure that the Osun governorship election sets a new national standard for the conduct of elections in Nigeria.
