COAS Demands Results as Restore Hope IX Ends
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has called on graduating troops of Exercise Restore Hope IX to apply their intensive training toward achieving decisive victories in Nigeria’s ongoing security operations.
Speaking at the Nigerian Army Training Camp in Kachia, Lieutenant General Shaibu emphasized that the graduation marks a pivotal transition from rigorous preparation to active combat excellence.
In a statement signed by the acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele and made available to Channel Network Afrique, CNA News, the COAS noted that the soldiers will be deployed immediately across various theaters of operation to confront the nation’s security challenges.
Commitment to Professionalism
The COAS identified discipline, adaptability, and teamwork as the cornerstones of success in modern warfare.
He described the Exercise Restore Hope series as a vital pillar of the Nigerian Army’s transformation agenda, aimed at fostering a force that is resilient and capable of working within multi-agency environments.
”Battlefield success must be anchored on professionalism, respect for human rights, and accountability,” Shaibu stated, stressing that ethical conduct is essential for maintaining public trust and the legitimacy of military operations.

The advanced infantry training focused on several key areas designed for high-tempo environments:
- Enhanced Marksmanship: Improving precision and fire discipline.
- Physical Endurance: Preparing troops for sustained operations.
- Combat Medical Skills: Increasing survivability on the front lines.
- Mental Resilience: Building the psychological fortitude required for modern conflict.
Major General VU Okoro, the Chief of Training (Army), noted that this ninth iteration of the exercise remains a premier platform for sharpening the skills of soldiers post-basic training, ensuring they are prepared for contemporary operational realities.
Recognition of Excellence
In a highlight of the ceremony, the COAS approved the immediate promotion and decoration of seven soldiers who distinguished themselves as instructors during the course.
He praised the training staff for maintaining high standards, noting that previous graduates of the program have consistently distinguished themselves in the field.
The ceremony concluded with the official closing of Exercise Restore Hope IX and the deployment of the new graduates to their respective units.
