As Nigeria joins the global community to observe the 2022 world cancer day, indications from the National Cancer Control Plan (2018–2022), reveals that the disease is responsible for over 72,000 deaths in the country with an estimated 102,000 new cases annually. This development makes the mortality ratio of cancer in Nigeria much higher as compared with other nations of the world. At the 2022 World Cancer day Press Conference put together by the Nigeria Cancer society and it’s partners,the need to raise more publicity and awareness about the disease and other related interventions like free screening services and medical outreaches top discuss by various speakers. Earlier,the NCS president,Dr Adamu Umar on his part raised concerns over the state of cancer treatment machines across the nation’s health facilities attributing the trend to the gap in cancer care and management in Nigeria. The Theme for this Year’s World Cancer day is Close The Care Gap.
