The federal government has disclosed plans for an upward review of funds for disability related intervention in Nigeria by international organizations to 15 percent.
Executive Secretary,National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, James Lalu disclosed at a ceremony to review and revalidate the Commission’s 5 year strategic plan on Abuja.
Lalu while hinting on efforts to ensure the proposal is approved by the relevant authority said the gesture will ensure adequate funding of disabilities activities in the country.
Speaking on the 5 year strategic plan, the ES said it is targeted at aligning the activities of Civil society organizations, international partners and relevant government agencies to achieving the common goal of making life more meaningful for PWDs.
Lalu further used the occasion to brief the gathering on other interventions by the commission to advance the lot of the disabilities community.
Other stakeholders on their part,added their input to the 5 year strategic draft plan. Other takeaway from the meeting includes the role of security agencies to reducing the trend of discrimination against PWDs in Nigeria.
