FCT Council Polls: Inec Meets Security Chiefs, Assures Of Safety Of Poll.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu says engagement with stakeholders ahead of the February 12th Federal Capital Territory Area Council Election will be intensified to ensure that the election process is peaceful and credible.

The INEC Chairman stated this while declaring open a meeting with the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on election security (ICCES) to review security arrangement for the forthcoming election. Prof. Yakubu further disclosed that the Commission has evaluated the risk to the election using the Election Violence and Advocacy Tool (EVMAT) to identify early warning signals that could assist the security agencies.

The National Security Adviser and Co Chair ICCES who was represented by TS Tobin urged the security agencies to ensure the successful conduct of the area council polls.

Other elections expected to be conducted by INEC in the coming months includes six bye-elections slated for 26 February 2022, followed by the Ekiti and Osun Governorship elections scheduled for 18 June and 16″ July 2022 respectively.
