As part of efforts to consolidate Nigeria’s cross border relations with neighbouring West African countries, the Federal Government has inaugurated the National Platform on the ECOWAS Cross Border Cooperation (CBC) Support Programme (2021-2025). The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Chairman, International Boundaries Technical Committee, Amb. Zubairu Dada,who performed the inauguration in Abuja said the initiative is targeted at strengthening the cooperation and good relations amongst ECOWAS member states to ensure free movement of people, goods and services. He expressed optimism that the cooperation will facilitate the platform to serve as springboard for the much desire regional integration and cooperation. Earlier, the Director General of the National Boundary Commission NBC Adamu Adaji gave a brief history leading to the build up of the Cross border Cooperation. Recall that the Cross Border Cooperation framework was adopted by the Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS in January 2006 as a necessary mechanism for the transformation of border areas into zones of exchange and bridges of cooperation.
