The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has challenged Nigerian women to take the lead in voter mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging them to secure their Permanent Voter Cards and mobilise others to vote.

INEC Secretary, Dr Rose Anthony, gave the charge in Abuja at the unveiling of Project 20 Million Women Votes, an initiative of the Pan African Women Projects, PAWP.

Anthony stressed that women’s participation in elections must go beyond voter registration, calling on them to ensure their voices count in determining the country’s leadership.

Anthony also emphasised the need for sustained mobilisation to ensure women fully exercise their voting rights.

Earlier, the Head of Mission of PAWP, Dr Eno Ben Udensi, said the project will focus on voter registration, voter education and protection of women’s votes, with coordinators across the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory.
