The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has intensified its crackdown on illegal National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment, unauthorised data modification and extortion, following an enforcement operation that led to several arrests and the seizure of illegal enrolment equipment in Gwagwalada and other locations.

The operation, carried out through the Commission’s Inspectorate Compliance and Enforcement Unit (ICEU), is part of efforts to dismantle illegal enrolment networks, curb unethical practices and safeguard the integrity, security and credibility of Nigeria’s National Identity Management System.

In statement by Kayode Adegoke,
Head Corporate Communications,NIMC
warned that many challenges experienced by NIN holders result from the use of unauthorised channels to obtain enrolment and modification services. The Commission stressed that NIN enrolment must be conducted exclusively at its approved enrolment centres, while data modifications should be processed through its official self service platform at www.nimc.gov.ng.

The Commission also urged NIN holders to download the NINAuth application from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store. The application provides security benefits, including NIN authentication and access to NIN slip printing services.

The Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, reaffirmed the Commission’s zero tolerance stance on extortion and unethical conduct, assuring Nigerians and legal residents of its commitment to delivering seamless and hitch free NIN enrolment services.

She urged members of the public to avoid patronising illegal operators and to use only NIMC approved channels for enrolment and other NINbrelated services.
