Private Universities Now 148, As FG Issues 2 New Licenses.

The Federal Government says it is undertaking reforms in the nations education sector that will make skills and entrepreneurial studies compulsory in the academic curriculum of tertiary institutions.

Education Minister, Prof Tahir Mamman gave the indication at the presentation ceremony of licenses to 2 private universities in Abuja.

The minister who was specific on government nod to access of university education to Nigeria’s teeming youth population said the emphasis of the reform is to see how the institutions can complement the efforts of government to address some of the nations fundamental challenges.

Prof Mamman further assured of plans to work with the National Universities Commission to ensure basic minimum academic standards are strictly adhered to.

Earlier, the NUC ag, Executive Secretary, Chris Maiyaki in his welcome remarks said the Commission will continue to encourage the establishment of more Universities in the country.

The coming on board of the Light House University, Edo state and Abuja school of Economics located in the FCT, will bring to 148 private universities and 272 universities in Nigeria.
