The off cycle Governorship election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC was largely peaceful in the Owerri metropolis of Imo state.
As early as 8am,INEC officials were seen arriving at various polling units in the metropolis,setting up for the business of the day.
Security operatives were also positioned at strategic locations to ensure a hitch free process. The poll however was characterised by voter apathy in some of the polling units visited by CNA crew, with few voters on ground to exercise their franchise. he called for cooperation from the voters to ensure a seamless process. Other voters in some of the polling units expressed satisfaction with the process. As at the time of filing this report, electioneering process is ongoing with no incidents of violence recorded in polling units visited so far.
Over 2 million voters are expected to exercise their franchise in the 4,758 polling units approved by INEC to elect the next Governor of Imo state.
