Group Tasks FG On Coconut Seed Bank Development

As part of effort for Nigeria to attain Coconut Sufficiency in the year 2027, the Federal Government has been advised to develop Coconut Seed Bank to ensure the supply of innovative viable certified seedlings with at least ten million seed nuts.

The President, National Coconut Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria, Nma Okoroji made the call in Abuja at the commemoration of the 2023 World Coconut Day.

She said the Coconut Seed Bank Nigerian will help the country improve significantly from its present eighteenth place in the the producers ranking.

The President also said registering the country as a member of the International Coconut Community will help in boosting Nigeria’s place in the comity of nations.

The Minister, Federal Ministry of Industry Trade and Investment, Doris Uzoka-Anite, said the theme Sustaining Coconut Sector For The Present and Future Generation in Nigeria was apt.

Represented by the Director, Commodity and Export Department, Kaura Irimiya, the minister said the sector would be supported to thrive.

She further assured the association of the ministry’s cooperation for the actualisation of the common goal.
