The Inspector General of Police Usman Alkali Baba, has launched the Police Standard Operating Procedure SOP for handling cases involving children in contact with the law.
The ceremony held at the force headquarters in Abuja,had the IGP saying Children in contact with the law require child friendly procedures that are sensitive adaptive and responsive to specific needs and circumstances.
He expressed optimism that the SOP would assist the police in dealing with the situation. On their part, the European Union(UN) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says the SOPs demonstrate the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure child-friendly policing in Nigeria.
The SOPs offer strategic framework that provides clear guidelines on procedures for providing services for children to facilitate timely access to justice.
