International Day of Persons with Disabilities is an annual event devoted to raise awareness about people living with disabilities by promoting their wellbeing and rights.
The day is also set aside to mobilise support for critical issues relating to the inclusion of PWDs as well as draw attention to the benefits of an inclusive and accessible society for all.
Speaking at a news conference to commemorates the 2022 edition in Abuja, the Executive Director, Inclusive Friends Association, Grace Jerry said exclusion of PWDs is getting wider despite provision of the Discrimination Act and other amended laws.
She highlighted some of the key issues that need immediate and deliberate attention in respect of Disability community.
On his part, the Program Manager, Access Nigeria Campaign, Molly Joshua called on President Muhammadu Buhari to accelerate the implementation of the Discrimination against person’s with Disability Act 2018, in all the 36 States of Country.
He urged the government at all levels to engage PWDs in the democratic process, to combat abuses.
