It was all smiles and jubilation when the Federal Government announced that States will receive the final tranche of $1.5 billion World Bank-Assisted States Fiscal Transparency Accountability and Sustainability Programme’s grant in days to come.
Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed disclosed this at a dinner and award night of the 28th Nigeria Economic Summit in Abuja.
The Minister who noted that the sum of one billion naira withheld by the Central Bank through naira exchange deficit will also be released said the disbursement of the performance-based grant will be given for results achieved following various annual assessments.
She said further fiscal incentives to states will stop after the disbursement but the technical assistance component of the programme would continue till June, 2023.
Chairman, Nigeria Governors Forum Committee on States Fiscal Transparency Accountability and Sustainability, Edo state Governor, Godwin Obaseki said the 36 states have signed a charter to sustain the programme ideals as entrenched in the fiscal governance space of the sub-national level.
Some stakeholders also spoke to the occasion.
The occasion came to a close with awards of excellence presented to best performing states in diverse Disbursement Link Indicators (DLIs) for the intervention programme.
