FG Takes Giant Steps To End Agro Export Rejects

Export Reject of Nigeria’s Agricultural Products in the International Market has been one major challenge militating against the nation’s foreign exchange earnings in the non-oil sector of the economy. This has been a major source of worries by the Buhari led administration due to its reinvigorated efforts to diversify the economy from its monolithic nature of oil to non-oil. To take the bull by the horne, the government constituted an inter-agency facts finding committee to visit some key western countries in finding solutions to the challenge. Back from the mission, report submitted, implementation committee constituted, the Federal Government also sees the ongoing war between Russian and Ukrainian as a major source of concern to global food security especially due to the recent suspensions of the Black Sea Grain Initiative by the Russian government with claims of alleged attack on civilian vessels. Inaugurating a ten man committee, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Richard Adebayo urged the team to draw work plan for the implement of the recommendations of the Technical Committee on Export Reject. Assuring the Minister of their commitment, the Executive Director, Nigerian Export Promotion Council, Ezra Yakusak who is the Chairman of the Committee and the Director, Commodities and Export Department, FMITI, Suleman Audu who is Co-chairing said they will take the responsibility seriously. Members of the Committee include, the Executive Director, Nigerian Export Promotion Council, the Director Commodities & Export Department, FMITI, Federal Produce Inspection Services, Federal Ministry of Agric & Rural Dev. and Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Services. Others include, Central Bank of Nigeria, ABX World, FACAN, FUAMK and Joint-Secretariat of Commodities and Export Department & NEPC.
