The President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Samson Ayokunle, has called on Nigerians and security agencies to run integrity as well as background check on political aspirants who intend to participate in the 2023 general elections.
He made the call while delivering his keynote address at the National Political Dialogue on Constitutional Future of Nigeria, organised by the National Consultative Front in collaboration with the Nigeria Political Summit Group.
The clergy explained that knowing the background of politicians who intend to hold public office is a crucial step towards ensuring that the right crop of leaders occupy the various political offices. Earlier, the convener of the National Consultative Front, Professor, Pat Utomi, expressed worries over the calibre of politicians vying for political office as they do not have a grasp on the issues currently facing the country.
Stakeholder after stakeholder took turn to speak on issues that need urgent national attention in the political space. The theme of the Confab is, “Setting Agenda for Popular Constitution Reforms and Credible Elections in Nigeria”.
