Troops Neutralize Top Boko Haram Commander Abu Khalid In Sambisa Raid
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have killed a high-ranking Boko Haram leader, Abu Khalid, and 10 other insurgents during a decisive night operation in Borno State.
Khalid, identified as the Second-in-Command of Boko Haram within the Sambisa Forest, was neutralized alongside his subordinates at approximately 11:00 p.m. in the Komala area of Konduga Local Government Area. The operation was a collaborative effort between Sector 1 troops and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) under the “Operation DESERT SANITY” initiative.
Key Operational Details
The elimination of Khalid comes just 24 hours after the death of another notorious commander, Julaibib, who operated within the Timbuktu Triangle. Military officials described Khalid as a pivotal figure responsible for coordinating logistics and tactical strikes across the Sambisa axis.
Following the firefight, the military reported the following recoveries:
- Small Arms: Five AK-47 rifles and several magazines.
- Transportation: A fleet of bicycles used for tactical movement.
- Supplies: Assorted food items and a significant cache of medical consumables.
Casualties and Current Status
The Headquarters of the Joint Task Force confirmed that no military personnel were killed or injured during the engagement.
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for OPHK, stated that the military remains committed to maintaining the current operational tempo. Clearance operations are reportedly ongoing in the Mandara Mountains, Timbuktu Triangle, and other known insurgent strongholds to ensure the restoration of economic stability in the region.
The Military High Command has formally commended the troops for their dedication, urging them to remain relentless until the remnants of Boko Haram and ISWAP are fully neutralized.
