NELFUND Denies Suspension Of Students’ Upkeep Allowance, Warns Against Fake Reports
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has refuted reports circulating on social media and online platforms alleging that the Federal Government has suspended students’ upkeep allowance payments under the student loan scheme.
In a statement issued by the Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, NELFUND described the reports as false, misleading, and aimed at creating panic, confusion, and distrust among beneficiaries and the public.
The Fund stated that the publications, including a statement falsely attributed to NELFUND and an AI-generated newspaper front page purportedly from The Nigerian Tribune, are entirely fake and did not originate from any authorized government source.
NELFUND clarified that no directive has been issued by either the Federal Government or the agency regarding the suspension of upkeep allowances for students.
“The publications in circulation did not originate from NELFUND or any authorized government channel,” the statement said, adding that the newspaper cover being shared online is AI-generated and does not represent a genuine publication from The Nigerian Tribune.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to the transparent and efficient disbursement of student loans and upkeep support in line with its mandate.
NELFUND urged beneficiaries, stakeholders, and members of the public to disregard the fake reports and rely only on verified information from its official communication channels and credible media platforms.
The Fund also advised the public against sharing unverified information capable of spreading misinformation and causing unnecessary anxiety among students and parents nationwide.
NELFUND reiterated its commitment to expanding access to higher education and supporting Nigerian students through sustainable financing initiatives.
