The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has presented insurance benefit cheques worth over two point three billion naira to two thousand, nine hundred and seventy one next of kin and beneficiaries of police officers who died in the line of duty.
Speaking at a solemn ceremony held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the IGP described the disbursement as more than a routine administrative exercise, stressing that it represents a sacred institutional responsibility to honour the sacrifices of officers who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.
Disu noted that behind every fallen officer was a beloved family member whose sacrifice must never be forgotten.
He emphasised the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring that the welfare of the families left behind remains a priority.
The IGP further explained that the payout includes outstanding balance recoveries from insurance companies following previous partial settlements, underscoring the Force’s determination to secure all entitlements due to beneficiaries.
Earlier, the Force Insurance Officer, ACP Lydia Ameh, reaffirmed the Police Force’s commitment to strengthening the insurance scheme, improving claims administration, pursuing outstanding obligations, and protecting the interests of serving personnel and their families.

She also urged the Force Insurance Unit to intensify awareness campaigns across state commands and police formations to ensure officers and their families fully understand their insurance benefits and entitlements.
