LTV Lecture Series: Stakeholders Task FG To Create Safe, Enabling Environment For Journalists.
Available statistics indicates that over 883 journalists and 152 media workers have been killed around the world in the last 20 years. This development no doubt has raised concerns over the plight of media practitioners,their safety and the quest for a conducive environment for the effective discharge of their responsibilities. Speaking at the 5th Lagos Television Abuja Bureau annual retreat lecture in Abuja, the National Commandant, Peace Corps of Nigeria Dickson Akor called for a rethink especially as journalism is a career of service to humanity. Represented by Edet Ekpeyong, Deputy National Commandant, Policy and Plan,the Peace Corps boss however cautioned on need for journalists to always abide by the code of conduct governing the profession. Other stakeholders in their goodwill messages also stressed on safety measures for Journalists noting that no story is worth dying for. The theme of the annual Lecture series is: Journalistic Practice in the face of Daunting Security Challenges: Maintaining the Lines of Public Interest and Personal Safety.
