This is the 10th graduation ceremony of the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA) skills Acquisition Centre (DSAC) at the DEPOWA secretariat in Abuja. The Centre which was established to provide valuable learning opportunities for widows and vulnerable youths of fallen heroes through skills Acquisition in order to improve their well being and capacity graduated 40 beneficiaries. Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen while commending the association’s initiative assured of the ministries unflinching support in the empowerment of women and girls which she noted is key to national development. Dame Tallen however advocated need for DEPOWA leadership to expand the horizon of their training to male dominated vocations. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor who briefly graced the occasion admonished the beneficiaries to build upon the skills they have acquired and make good use of the starter packs provided to them. On her part, the president of DEPOWA, Barr. Vickie Irabor said the initiative is to help ameliorate the impact of the challenges faced by families of fallen heroes as well as to give them hope for the future. The ceremony featured exhibition of items produced by the graduands, presentation of certificate and starter packs among others.
