Pension: Labour Tackles Governors On Proposed Borrowing Of N17 Trillion.

Only recently, the nation’s 36 Governors under the auspices of the Nigeria Governors Forum approached the Pension Fund Administrator to borrow about 17 trillion naira to fund infrastructural projects across the states. Kicking against the development, the Organised labour are of the opinion that the Governor’s wants to reap where they did not sow. Speaking at the 47th National Executive Council Meeting of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria in Abuja, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Wabba Ayuba described the move as unconstitutional saying the nation’s workforce will do all within its power to ensure the Governor’s do not have their way. Meanwhile, President of the Medical and Health workers Union Comrade Biobelemoye Josiah while reflecting on the state of the nation wondered why after 60 years of Independence, Nigerians are still grappling with intricacies of how to live together. He further postulated on the way forward. Rendering account of its stewardship, the union leadership highlighted several interventions including provision of personnel protective equipment for members during the outbreak of the coronavirus in the country,state of ongoing work on its legacy project, and the struggle for implementation of the social palliative allowance for members among others.
