Skills gap is one of the major challenge Nigeria is faced with. Survey conducted by the Industrial Training Fund in conjunction with a United Nations agency shows that vacancies existed in four priority sectors of the economy which include Services, Agriculture, Construction and Transportation.
The report also indicated that in some instances expatriates pick up the jobs due to absence of requisite technical skills by Nigerians. To address the skills gap, Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment took the bull by the horn by launching the Young Professional Programme to encourage skills acquisition among young officers.
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Richard Adebayo, said the continuous professional career development strategy will go a long way in contributing to the growth and development of the nation’s economy.
