The International Conference on Population and Development was held in Cairo, Egypt in 1994 where Nigeria and other Countries in attendance articulated a bold new vision about the relationship between Population, development and individual well-being. The highpoint of the conference was adoption of a 20 year action plan to avoid population growth and environmental challenges. 25 years after, countries under the auspices of the United Nations are counting the gains of the Cairo plan . According to the Acting Chairman of the National Population commission, Yusuf Anka at a news conference to unveil activities lined up to commemorate this year’s edition of the world population day, it is not yet Uhuru for Nigeria as a lot still needs to be done.
