UNESCO Partners With Open Universty To Improve Quality Of Higher Education.

Distance learning officially began in Nigeria in the year 2002,with the commissioning of the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, by former president Olusegun Obasanjo led administration. The major idea was to overcome some of the major barriers, making education more accessible to Nigerians and subsequently Africans. In recent times however, Open Distance Learning institutions across Africa, have not be able to effectively infuse the use of the internet for its activities. This was the reason for the Regional Workshop on Using Online Learning and Massive Open Online Courses to Promote Quality Higher Education, organized by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO.
