The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria TRCN says it has so far registered over 2.3 million teachers in Nigeria.
TRCN Registrar, Prof Josiah Ajiboye who gave the indication at an interactive session with the media in Abuja added that 400,000 teachers out of the number have been duly licensed by the council.
Prof Ajiboye who restated the council’s commitment to rid the nation of quacks from the teaching profession, further highlighted plans to henceforth beam searchlight on the private school system.
The TRCN boss also used the opportunity to release results of the November edition of the Teachers Professional Qualifying Examination, PQE, revealing that 3,963 teachers failed the examination.
Ajiboye also confirmed that the TRCN is working with the office of the Attorney General of the Federation to secure a fiat for prosecution of examination malpractices related cases.
