According to a recent survey, over 47 million Nigerians still practice open defecation.
This worrisome development no doubt prompted the declaration of a state of emergency on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sector by President Mohammadu Buhari on the the 8th of November 2018.
The government took a step further to initiate the National Open Defecation free roadmap to drive its policies on addressing the challenge.
The efforts however may have started yielding the desired results as the minister of water resources, Suleiman Adamu at the Fourth Inter Ministerial Dialogue in Abuja, stated that a 2025 target has been set by government to end open defecation in Nigeria.
