A civil rights organisation, Yiaga Africa says the intrigues that characterized the recently held Presidential and National Assembly elections in Nigeria has undermined public confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The Board Chairman, Yiaga Africa, Hussaini Abdu who gave the indication at a press conference in Abuja to present it’s findings on the elections expressed reservation that despite the assurances from INEC, the results of the presidential election was not uploaded in the Result Viewing Portal (IReV) system as promised.
Represented by Aisha Abdullahi, the Yiaga Africa board however recommended a legal timelines for testing new electoral technologies in Nigeria’s electoral legal framework for better deliverables.
On his part, the Executive Director, Yiaga Africa, Samson Itodo stressed the need for transparency on the part of INEC in collating election results to build up public trust.
The Organization further raised concerns on attacks targeted at NYSC members, INEC staff and voters by hoodlums and urged the security agencies to live up to their responsibilities.
