NAFDAC Warns Against Use Of Herbal Intoxicant ‘KURKURA’,Begins Crackdown On Manufacturers.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC)says it has commenced crackdown on manufacturers and distributors of illegal herbal products laced with high concentration of dangerous tobacco and cannabis.

Addressing a news conference in Abuja, NAFDAC Director General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye raised alarm of the development,warning that the products contains substances that that are harmful to the body or misused by the manufacturers in terms of quality and dosage.

She said the product popularly known as Kurkura and predominantly consumed in the South West and northern regions of the country for the sole aim of getting intoxicated said it can be harmful to the body organs such as kidney,brain and level when abused.

Prof Adeyeye further said the agency has commenced a nationwide crackdown of those involved in the illicit business. Similarly, the NAFDAC boss also gave an update on an Alcoholic bitters it registered but was abused with marijuana and cannabis by the manufacturers.

While 3 persons are presently prosecuted for the alleged offence, Prof Mojisola assured of NAFDAC commitment to safeguard the health of the nation.
