As Nigeria joins other African countries to mark the 2022 Civil Registration and Vital Statistics day, the federal government has indicated plans to conclude ongoing efforts to transform from manual to automated Civil Registration and Vital Statistics system in Nigeria.
Chairman, National Population Commission NPC, Hon Nasir Kwarra said this at a press briefing to mark the 5th African Civil Registration and Vital Statistics day in Abuja.
Explaining that the day is set aside to increase public awareness on the importance of timely registration of vital events particularly births and deaths, Kwarra restated the commitment of the commission to ensure Civil Registration gets the attention it deserves in the country.
He further indicated plans to inaugurate a CVRS coordination committee with membership that covers key Stakeholders to drive a robust and integrated systems within the identity management eco system. The NPC boss further gave an update on the commission’s Vital Reg Pro platform.
Earlier, in her remarks, the representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF, Sharon Oladiji pledged the support of the world body to harmonize the various levels of birth registration and certification processes in the country.
