ITF Seeks Overhauling Of Nigeria’s Educational System To Check Unemployment Rate.

It was the gathering of stakeholders in the second National Skills Summit in the Nigerian Capital City, Abuja.

The essence of the 2022 summit is to galvanise support for “Institutionalising Apprenticeship and Traineeship For National Development.” Declaring the summit open, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Richard Adebayo expressed reservation over the huge skills gap in the nation’s workforce.

Represented by the Minister of State, Amb Mariam Katagum, the minister said “apprenticeship and traineeship, which is one aspect of skills acquisition will play a significant role in solving some of the challenges militating against the country.

The Director-General, Industrial Training Fund, Joseph Ari, called for a complete overhauling of the nation’s educational system to enable government address the increasing unemployment rate in the country.

He explained that the summit will provide stakeholders with the platform to finally articulate strategies for a robust apprenticeship scheme in the country. Some stakeholders also spoke on the significance of the summit to the nation’s economic development.

The event was attended by the Minister of Women Affairs Pauline Tallen, the Permanent Secretary, FMITI, Evelyn Ngige, among others.
