The Department of State Service DSS has debunked an online media report that none of it’s personnel was in the custody of the Kuje Correctional Centre.
The service was reacting to an online Vanguard publication of 6th July 2022 captioned: Kuje Prison Attack: One Suspect Reportedly Caught After Hot Chase by Gallant Officers.
The report also alleged that one of the escaping inmates who “claimed to be a DSS personnel was apprehended by NCS operatives near Kwali after a chase.” It further stated that the so called DSS operative also claimed to be “carrying out a special mission in the forest”.
According to a signed statement by the DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, no DSS personnel was involved in the escape episode.
” In fact, at the point of the attack on the prison, no DSS personnel was an inmate at the holding facility just as the claim of carrying out a special assignment was non-existent”he said.
The Service advised the public to disregard the report insisting that it is not factual and thereby misleading.
The Kuje prison was on Tuesday night 5th July 2022 compromised with explosives by invading Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) Terrorists group.
The Terrorists used dynamites to destroy the heavily fortified facility, including the Central Terrorism Unit (CTU), freeing over 1,000 inmates including 64 Boko Haram members.
