Ahead of the June 6 Special Convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), 12 aspirants have been screened by the party’s Presidential Screening Committee (PSC).
11 other aspirants are expected to take their turn before the John Odigie Oyegun-led seven-man committee on tuesday in Abuja.
The screening exercise which was earlier slated for May 23, 2022, but postponed by the National Working Committee (NWC) kick-started after the inauguration of the panel by the APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
Those screened include APC National leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Minister of State, Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajuiba, Jigawa State governor, Badaru Abubakar, Senator Ajayi Boroffice, the only female aspirant, Uju Ken-Ohanenye, Felix Nicholas and Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi.
Others are former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani, Pastor Tunde Bakare, former governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosu, former governor of Zamfara State, Senator Sani Yarima Ahmed and former Minister of Transportation, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi.
Addressing newsmen,some of the aspirants expressed satisfaction with the exercise and restated their commitment to the party.
Meanwhile, the names of former President Goodluck Jonathan, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwunmi Adesina, Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emeifele, Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige and Minister of State, Petroleum, Timipre Sylva were excluded from the list of aspirants that purchased the APC nomination forms.
