The International Day of Family is a day set aside to create awareness and understanding of the importance of families and their values in shaping the world.
In commemorating the 2022 edition, the Nigerian Government says it has thrown its weight behind it’s anti drugs agency, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in the fight against drug abuse which is prevalent in most parts of the country.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Farouk who disclosed this in Abuja, attributed the high rate of domestic violence that has impacted negatively on families to substance abuses.
Represented by the Director, Humanitarian Affairs, Alhaji Ali Grema, the Minister emphasize on need for all to put hand on deck to condemn the act that has inflicted severe harm to families, its values and the society at large. The Minister also called on families and communities to always support and protect Persons With Disabilities as they are members of families.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Dr. Nasir Gwarzo who was represented by the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Ralph Obi could not agree less with the Minister.
Meanwhile, in the mood of the celebration, thirty selected families were given with the sum of #25,000 each as grant to improve their wellbeing.
The Theme of this year’s International Day for the Family is; ” Family and Urbanization”.
