The Federal Government has restated commitment to the implementation of the Persons with Disabilities accessibility standards in Nigeria.
The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons With Disabilities NCPWDs, James Lalu, disclosed this at a two day Validation meeting of the National Accessibility Standards in collaboration with Sight Savers international in Abuja,
He indicated plans to inaugurate a taskforce with mandate to drive enforcement of the standards to ensure public building’s are declared fit for access to PWDs.
Earlier in his remarks, the representative of the Country Director, Sight Savers Rasaq Adekanya, said the validation document will be useful in making Nigeria more inclusive and accessible for PWDs.
Key indications from the validation document is to ensure public facilities owned by government or individuals are accessible for PWDs.
