The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and the former vice president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has picked Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate ahead of the 2023 presidential election Okowa was unveiled at the PDP national Secretariat in Abuja by the National Working Committee of the party.
Atiku said the race towards making Okowa the running mate was hectic noting that the party narrowed down the search from three persons to one.
The PDP presidential candidate who was given opportunity to announce his running mate expressed optimism in Okowa’s capacity to deliver as the nations number two citizen.
Earlier, the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu denied insinuations indicating the party forced a candidate on Atiku. Meanwhile, Okowa in his acceptance speech, acknowledged the enormity of work ahead of the PDP towards winning the 2023 presidential election, advising the party hierarchies to hit the ground running.
Okowa was made the running mate after a fierce contest with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State. The choice was believed to be in the best interest of the party as it seeks a return to power next year
