The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has warned residents of communities around Alaoji, Aba, Abia State, against vandalising transmission infrastructure, saying the destruction of critical components could trigger the collapse of multiple electricity towers.
The warning was issued during a community awareness campaign organised by the TCN Port Harcourt Region in Alaoji, Aba, within Ugwunagbo Local Government Area of the state, on August 28, 2026.
Speaking at the engagement, the Assistant General Manager, Aba Sub-Region, Engr. Juliet Ndi Ukomadu, said youths in the area had repeatedly vandalised TCN earthing wires, cables and tower members.
According to her, such acts of vandalism could weaken transmission structures and lead to cascading tower collapses, potentially disrupting electricity supply across affected communities.
Ukomadu also warned residents against encroaching on TCN’s Right of Way (RoW), particularly by erecting buildings beneath or around transmission lines.
She urged traditional rulers, youths and other community stakeholders to speak up against infrastructure sabotage and promptly report suspicious activities around TCN installations.
Also speaking, the Head of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Etang Edike, warned that anyone caught vandalising power infrastructure would face the full force of the law.
Edike disclosed that the Civil Defence had stationed a dedicated patrol vehicle and six armed personnel who could be deployed to affected locations when alerted.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around transmission facilities to security agencies or contact him directly.
Meanwhile, the traditional ruler of Ekiti Akoma Ngwa Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Elder Promise Oguibe, assured TCN of the community’s commitment to protecting transmission infrastructure passing through the area.
Participants from the various communities also pledged their cooperation with TCN and security agencies to safeguard transmission facilities serving their localities.
