Shinkafi Warns of Political Crisis in Zamfara Over Alleged APC Primary Hijack
Dr. Sani Shinkafi, an aspirant for the Zamfara North Senatorial seat, has warned of a potential political “explosion” in Zamfara State following allegations that high-ranking officials are attempting to hijack the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections.
​Speaking to journalists after a screening by the APC Committee, Shinkafi voiced strong opposition to the use of consensus candidates, demanding instead that the party conduct direct primaries to ensure a democratic process.
​Allegations of Interference
​Shinkafi specifically accused a serving Minister of State for Defence of leveraging his office to manipulate the political landscape and “neutralize” the internal election process.
​”He wants to impose chaos and anarchy on Zamfara politics,” Shinkafi alleged. “We will never allow that to happen. Any attempt to silence genuine aspirants will be heavily resisted.”
​The aspirant characterized his campaign as a “political uprising” against decades of intimidation and what he termed “political slavery” within the state.
​Appeals for Federal Intervention
​The senatorial hopeful issued a direct appeal to President Bola Tinubu and the APC National Working Committee (NWC). He urged the national leadership to intervene and protect the integrity of the democratic process in Zamfara before the internal friction escalates further.
​Geographic Marginalization
​A central theme of Shinkafi’s address was the long-term exclusion of specific communities. He noted that since the return to democracy in 1999, certain areas within Zamfara North have lacked representation in the Senate for 28 years.
