The Federal Government of Nigeria has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election for a fourth non-consecutive term following Brazil’s presidential runoff election held on 25 October 2026.

In a statement signed by Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Oluwafemi Adeniyi, Nigeria commended the people of Brazil for their active participation in the electoral process and their commitment to democratic governance through the exercise of their voting rights.

Nigeria noted that relations between both countries remain strong, built on shared historical and cultural ties, people-to-people connections and common interests as leading nations of the Global South.

The government said the relationship has continued to expand across political, economic and social sectors through high-level engagements and institutional frameworks, including the Brazil-Nigeria Strategic Dialogue.

According to the ministry, Nigeria looks forward to working with President Lula during his new term to strengthen existing partnerships, deepen bilateral cooperation and explore new areas of mutually beneficial collaboration.

The Federal Government also congratulated the Government and people of Brazil on the successful conduct of the elections and expressed its wishes for continued peace, stability, progress and prosperity in the South American nation.
