Military Raid Averts Suspected Reprisal Attack in Plateau, Arms Recovered
Troops operating under Sector 8 Operation Enduring Peace have recovered a cache of illegal arms in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, foiling a planned attack on the Mwar Community in Chakfem Kingdom.
The military intervention followed human intelligence received warning of an imminent assault by suspected bandit militias. Preliminary investigations indicate the threatened attack was a potential reprisal linked to the recent rustling of cattle allegedly carried out by local youths.
In response, troops deployed to the area under Operation Hard Knock, launching fighting patrols and raids aimed at recovering the missing livestock and apprehending the perpetrators. Security forces utilized surveillance drones to sweep surrounding settlements and bush paths, though no cattle were immediately located.
Continued intelligence led troops to conduct a target raid on the residence of a suspect, identified as Pantong Stanley, who fled before forces arrived. A search of the premises yielded one standard AK-47 rifle, one locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, one locally fabricated revolver rifle, two Dane guns, and 15 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
Military forces, alongside the Nigeria Police Force and partner security agencies, have intensified operations across the area to track down Stanley and other named suspects, clear illegal arms caches, and locate the missing cattle.
Operation Enduring Peace urged residents to report suspicious activities, reiterating its resolve to curb arms proliferation and restore stability across Plateau State and the broader North Central region.
