Military Explains Tactic To Save Captives, Dismisses Claims of Slower Search Efforts

The Armed Forces of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to the safe rescue of residents kidnapped from Kurmin Wali, dismissing concerns that search efforts have slowed.

​In a statement released by the Director of Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja and made available to Channel Network Afrique, CNA News, the military addressed the anxieties of displaced families, asserting that the safe return and reintegration of all victims remains a “paramount undertaking.”

​Responding to allegations of a diminished response, Major General Onoja stated that the AFN is currently conducting sustained, intelligence-driven operations.

He said the missions are being carried out in collaboration with other security agencies, focusing on the forested areas where the kidnappers are believed to be hiding.

​According to the statement, military’s current strategy includes, coordinated ground patrols and surveillance, Intelligence gathering and
​Strategic initiatives aimed at neutralizing the perpetrators while ensuring no harm comes to the hostages.

​Addressing the delicate nature of the mission, the statement explained that the military has exercised “operational restraint” in certain instances.

Officials noted that this is a deliberate tactic intended to prevent unintended casualties among the captives during rescue attempts.

​”While specific operational details must remain confidential for security considerations, substantial efforts are underway to dismantle the criminal networks responsible for the abductions,” the statement read.

​The military however, urged the public and the affected families to remain patient as the operations progress.

Reaffirming its mandate to protect lives and property, the military emphasized that it remains steadfast in its goal to reunite the Kurmin Wali victims with their families.
